NIB welcomes positive outcome for UK science in Spending Review
The National Institutes of Bioscience welcome the Government’s commitment to prioritise investment in the future of UK science. In his Comprehensive Spending Review, the Chancellor announced the protection in real terms of the £4.7 billion budget for science resources.
The National Institutes of Bioscience also welcome the creation of the £1.5 billion Global Challenges Research Fund, assuring the delivery of cutting-edge, world-class science to the mutual benefit of the UK and developing countries.
Against a backdrop of tight budgets across much of Government and significant cuts to many programmes, the National Institutes of Bioscience recognise the positive message that has been sent to the UK and beyond about the importance of science, research and development. We welcome the Government’s recognition of the significance of innovations in bioscience for growing the bioeconomy.
